Basic Programme on Producers Organization

Introduction :

Formation of producers Collectives/Organizations is an important intervention for addressing the problems of low productivity and low farm income. Keeping this in view, while presenting the Union Budget for 2104-15, the Union Finance Minister announced that a Producers’ Organization Development and Upliftment Corpus Fund of Rs 200 crore to be utilized for building of 2000 Farmers Producer Organizations in the next two years will be set up in NABARD. Accordingly, a number of initiatives have since been taken to form and finance FPOs.

Programme Objectives:

• Explain the concept of Producers Organization
• Explain guidelines on formation of FPOs
• List out the advantages and business opportunities in FPOs
• Explain the possibility of promoting FPOs out of Federations of SHGs and Farmers Clubs etc.
