Who We Are & What We Do

The Bankers Institute of Rural Development (BIRD), Mangaluru is an ISO 9001:2015 certified training institute established in November 1984 by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). The institute has a mandate to meet the capacity building needs of institutions engaged in agriculture and rural development. Accordingly, it undertakes comprehensive manpower development of all banking institutions, besides government and non-government agencies including NBFCs-MFIs throughout the country.  The focus is on honing human resource skills of the stakeholder institutions having defined roles in advancement of agricultural productivity and social engineering as the means to accelerate rural prosperity.

The institute operates from its sprawling campus designed to facilitate academic pursuits in a serene and verdant atmosphere. Participants are provided with single room air conditioned accommodation.  The campus has state of the art class rooms, library, computer lab, gymnasium and multi-cuisine catering facilities.

The Faculty Members are professional trainers with domain knowledge and field experience in areas relating to agriculture, rural development, finance, banking and supervision, social mobilization and human resource development.

Training programmes are conducted both in-house and on-location and include those specifically designed to suit the client needs.  The training infrastructure is also made available for collaborative programmes. Over the last 35 years of its presence, the institute has trained about 65,000 officials. The institute also conducts international programmes, besides undertaking empirical studies and consultancy assignments.
